SOUTH BELOIT – City guides agreed on Tuesday to grant an unidentified party a special use permit that would allow the group to operate the first recreational-only marijuana dispensary in Winnebago County.
The approval came less than a week after the city’s District Complaints and Planning Commission approved the permit enabling an “adult cannabis dispensing organization” in a commercial park.
The pharmacy would be in the 7000 First Ranger Dr. located near Gardner Street and Willowbrook Road.
A lawyer representing the owner and operator of the pharmacy was present at the meeting on Tuesday but did not reveal the identity of the pharmacy operator.
Mayor Ted Rhel said the city will now work with the party to work out a financial deal and vote on it at the city council meeting on October 7th.
A law legalizing recreational marijuana goes into effect January 1st.
